The principles of this style as far as I can see were to borrow artifacts and opulent designs from the past and to present them in a mash-up with conflicting elements as if to emphasize one’s lack of submission to a particular style. People used to use the world ‘eclectic’ to justify interior design that essentially had no design effort applied, but in this evolving style, there is a theme. Each piece is excessive and the net result is a function of ‘more is more’. ‘Shabby Chic’ is close, but there is nothing shabby about what these interiors are trying to accomplish.
