I made a series of jewelry boxes for family members as gifts over the course of several years. This deco design was for my mother with whom I had a complicated relationship. Perhaps to an even greater degree than most of my designs, this jewelry box was impractical. The interior space is so shallow that it only fit a small subset of my mother’s jewelry. After my mother’s death, this jewelry box came back to me and it now sits in my bedroom, holding pieces of coral and tiny plastic babies.
